Mechanical sealing systems are ideal for cable ducts on substations and critical infrastructure where water ingress poses serious risk. GPT are expert installers of high-performance mechanical seals, providing IP68-rated water and gas protection.
Mechanical Cable Duct Sealing
GPT are experienced installers of high-performance mechanical cable and pipe duct sealing systems. These engineered solutions expand within the duct to form a secure, water- and gas-tight seal - typically rated to IP68 - making them essential in environments where even minor water ingress can cause significant issues, such as substations and other critical infrastructure.
Mechanical sealing systems offer outstanding flexibility, allowing for the addition or removal of cables or pipework at a later stage, without compromising the integrity of the seal. These systems also provide excellent cable retention, withstanding pull-out forces of up to 320 kg, which is particularly beneficial in cases where cables exert pressure on the seal.
Unlike mastic-based alternatives, mechanical seals can be installed in ducts with flowing water and are designed to withstand constant water pressure. For proper installation, the duct must be of solid construction and near-perfectly round.
Systems can be custom-fabricated to suit specific duct dimensions and cable layouts, or provided in more cost-effective standardised units. Ideally, mechanical sealing is factored into the early stages of a project, with pre-installed sleeves incorporated into foundations. These sleeves allow for quick sealing during initial cable installation, and also support future cable additions by leaving unused ducts capped and ready.
