Interceptor

Repair

Undetected oil interceptor failures can lead to serious environmental damage polluting surface water, ground, and groundwater. Prompt repairs are essential to prevent contamination and ensure compliance.

Interceptor Repairs

Oil and petrol interceptors are critical components of site drainage systems, designed to protect the environment from harmful pollutants. However, due to their below-ground location, faults and damage often go undetected for extended periods, allowing oil to escape and cause surface water, ground, and groundwater contamination.

At GPT we specialise in diagnosing and repairing damaged interceptors quickly and effectively to minimise environmental risk and restore system functionality.

A damaged interceptor can pose a serious risk to environmental compliance and may result in regulatory penalties or reputational damage. Whether the damage is due to wear and tear, poor maintenance, or installation issues, it’s essential that repairs are undertaken promptly by specialists with appropriate knowledge and certifications.

Our experienced team of environmental consultants and civil operatives carry out a wide range of interceptor repairs, including:

Common Repairs

Breaks & Cracks in glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) interceptors

Structural damage to GRP systems is repaired using specialist epoxy resins and GRP patches, restoring the unit’s structural integrity.

Damage to Brick-Built Interceptors

Our trained civil engineering staff repair cracks and structural faults in brick-built interceptors using specialist materials and industry best practices.

Broken or Faulty Coalescer Devices

Where possible, we refurbish and reseat damaged coalescer filters. If beyond repair, we can source or manufacture replacements through our partnerships with all major manufacturers.

Faulty High Oil/Silt Alarms

We diagnose and repair malfunctioning alarm systems. If repairs aren’t feasible, we supply and install replacement alarms, including high oil and silt level detectors, to maintain system compliance.

Faulty Automatic Closure Devices

We will endeavour to repair automatic closure devices, or replace these systems if it’s more economical, including full calibration and testing to ensure systems operate effectively.

Our Repair Process

Installing an interceptor is a major investment, and regular maintenance is key to longevity. While faults may occur even under a strict maintenance regime, interceptors that lack regular assessment are considerably more susceptible to failures. Faults are often identified through routine servicing and inspections, or during ISO 14001 audits or regulatory assessments.

Once a fault is identified, GPT will:

  1. Conduct a thorough assessment of the issue (this may involve Confined Space Entry to inspect internal structural damage)
  2. Design a suitable repair strategy, including sourcing any specialist parts or materials
  3. Execute repairs to meet British Standard BS EN 858-2:2003
  4. Produce a detailed repair report, documenting faults, actions taken, and results

This report can then be used to demonstrate regulatory compliance and environmental due diligence to external bodies such as Environmental Regulators and ISO 14001 auditors.

We repair all major interceptor brands, including: SPEL, Morclean, Kingspan, Klargester, Conder, Premier Tech Aqua, Camplas. Our team is fully equipped to inspect every type of system: Class I and Class II Interceptors, Bypass Interceptors, Full Retention Interceptors. We also repair all makes of interceptor alarms, including Labkotec, Darcy, AquaSentry, Pyramid, Kingspan.

If you suspect or have identified damage to your oil or petrol interceptor, we highly recommend addressing it promptly. GPT’s experienced team can assist with effective repairs to help ensure your system continues to operate safely and in compliance with environmental standards.
