Interceptor Service

Proper servicing of oil and petrol interceptors is critical for maintaining environmental compliance and ensuring the continued effectiveness of your drainage system. At GPT we offer specialist interceptor servicing, carried out under the supervision of qualified environmental consultants. Our team’s technical expertise ensures we can identify faults early, recommend appropriate action, and deliver services that meet all regulatory requirements.

As instructed by British Standard BS EN 858-2:2003 Separator Systems for Light Liquids, an oil or petrol interceptor should have an integrity inspection/service every five years, or sooner if:

A high level of silt is detected during routine inspection
There has been a major incident in the drainage catchment area

If these conditions do not apply, we recommend our standard interceptor inspection (audit) before opting for a full integrity service.

We offer two main levels of interceptor integrity service:

CCTV Integrity Service

This is the most commonly used and cost-effective option, suitable for the majority of interceptors. It involves:

Emptying and surface cleaning of the interceptor using a tanker
Inserting a specialist CCTV camera system to record the internal condition
Assessing structural integrity or detecting faults without confined space entry
Video inspection report, detailing either a clean bill of health or highlighting areas requiring repair

Confined Space Entry (CSE) Integrity Service

For larger or deeper interceptors where CCTV cannot be used effectively, we provide a confined space entry service, which includes:

Tanker emptying and surface cleaning
Manual entry by a trained confined space team
Video documentation of structural condition
Manual removal of solids and minor repairs (e.g. reseating the coalescer)
Diagnosis of defects and recommendations for repair scheduling

For both services we provide a complete service report detailing the work undertaken, interceptor condition, and a waste audit trail. This serves as evidence to external bodies such as environmental regulators or ISO 14001 auditors that a proper maintenance regime is in place.

Do I need an Interceptor Service?

If your interceptor isn’t yet due its 5-yearly service but a high silt level has been detected during inspection, we offer a targeted tanker service, which includes

Complete removal of interceptor contents
Jetting to dislodge and remove built-up silt
Wall cleaning
Surface-level structural inspection (as far as safely possible)
Recharging with clean water
Detailed service report and waste documentation
