Maintenance

GPT provides compliant bund maintenance services including periodic clearing and cleaning, with subsequent hazardous waste classification & licensed removal, evidenced with full documentation to support regulatory audit requirements.

Maintaining Secondary Containment

Regular bund maintenance is essential to ensure continued compliance with environmental regulations and maintaining effective secondary containment performance.

Effective bunds are designed to capture spills of oils, chemicals, and other hazardous materials. However, they also tend to collect rainwater, leaves, litter, and other debris. If this accumulation is not addressed, the available containment capacity of the bund is reduced, potentially causing it to fall below legal volume requirements.

Under current waste classification regulations, even waste containing as little as 0.1% oil must be treated as hazardous waste. It is therefore vital that any waste material removed from bunds is managed, transported, and disposed of correctly, in full compliance with environmental law. Improper disposal - such as discarding waste into a bin or pouring it down a drain - could lead to serious legal and environmental consequences.

We provide scheduled maintenance visits to ensure bunds remain clear of debris and excess rainwater, preserving their full containment capacity and operational integrity.

Stay Compliant

Our bund maintenance services ensure that your containment systems remain clean, compliant, and effectively perform when needed. Contact us today to discuss how we can support your bund maintenance program and help safeguard your site’s environmental standards. Our bund maintenance services include:

Periodic bund cleaning and clearing: Removal of rainwater, debris, and any accumulated contaminants from bund areas to restore full containment capacity.

Retrofitting of automatic bund dewatering systems: Where necessary, we can install automatic dewatering devices to prevent from overfilling between maintenance visits, ensuring regulatory compliance and reducing manual intervention.

Qualified waste classification and disposal: Our WAMITAB-qualified staff will accurately classify all waste material collected from bunds. If classified as hazardous, we can manage the full disposal process as we are an Upper Tier Licensed Hazardous Waste Carrier. We provide all necessary Duty of Care documentation to support your audit trails and environmental compliance obligations.

Bund Cleaning

We have cleared and cleaned countless bunds of all sizes, locations, and conditions. During a typical visit, a vacuum tanker will remove water or any leaked substances from the primary container(s) within the bund, followed by comprehensive jet washing of the area, even in restricted or hard-to-reach areas. Hazardous materials - such as acids, flammable materials, or toxic chemicals - are removed and disposed of in accordance with relevant legislation, restoring the secondary containment to a compliant, effective and operational state.
