Superb Oil Absorbency

Zorb is an extremely effective oil absorbent and absorbs roughly 6 times the oil of clay granules. The same quantity of zorb absorbs so much more oil as it contains natural resins which bind to the oils. Because of the way we manufacture the Zorb it combines smaller particles to give a high absorption surface area with fibrous particles that bind the product together

Environmentally friendly 

Zorb 614 is a loose organic oil absorbent, it is a 100% natural, organic & sustainable alternative to clay granules. Zorb contains natural micro-organisms which promote the breakdown of hydrocarbons, it is also bio degradable itself meaning once it has broken down the oil it will degrade itself.

Hydrophobic 

Zorb is a hydrophobic oil absorbent meaning it absorbs oils but not water making it particularly effective on spills to watercourses such as lakes and rivers. It is also non-leaching so once it absorbs the oil it will not release it. These qualities make it the perfect alternative to clay granules as they are neither hydrophobic nor non-leaching. In a wet weather spill clay granules often absorbs far more water than oil and any oil they do absorb can be replaced by water.

Light weight 

Zorb is far lighter in comparison to the same volume of clay granules. This becomes a benefit when disposal costs are calculated making zorb cheaper to dispose of. Because of its make-up zorb can be incinerated so oil contaminated zorb can be used as a fuel. Furthermore staff we speak to far prefer using zorb due to its lightweight nature.

Non-abrasive 

Zorb will not mark or harm floors unlike the grazes left by clay granules.

How to use Zorb

Due to the strengths previously mentioned Zorb can be used in a wide variety of ways for a wide variety of spills.

For spills on water Zorb can be applied to sit on the surface and absorb the oil on the surface of the water, this can then be skimmed from the surface once it has absorbed the oil. For river spills a boom can be applied across the river with the Zorb deployed up stream to catch any floating oils.

For spills on hard surfaces the Zorb should be applied to the affected area and worked in with a brush, once Zorb has been saturated with contaminants it turns a darker colour, Zorb has a far higher absorbency level than competitor products so a little Zorb can absorb a lot of oil, we recommend this is demonstrated to the end user of the product to stop it being used wastefully.

Once the Zorb is saturated it should be collected and disposed of as hazardous waste.

For spills on hard surfaces Zorb will collect the vast majority of the oil but some residue will be left, to remove this residue we recommend using a degreasing cleaning agent (e.g. Natsolv) to mobilise the oil so that it can be absorbed/flushed away.
