GPT Environmental can offer assistance in all aspects of hazardous waste:

Hazardous Waste Permitting

Our environmental consultants are experienced in assisting with applications related to hazardous waste.Your hazardous waste responsibilities will vary depending on where you are in the UK, for example in Wales if you produce hazardous waste you are legally obliged to register your sites as hazardous waste producers with Natural Resources Wales (NRW).

Hazardous Waste Classification & Characterisation

Accurately classifying your hazardous waste is one of the most important factors in hazardous waste compliance. If you classify your waste incorrectly you could be breaking the law and face prosecution. You may also end up substantially overpaying for your hazardous waste disposal if it is classified inaccurately. We are experienced in the accurate classification of waste to ensure you meet all legal obligations in the most cost effective manner; we have saved numerous companies money by reclassifying waste to allow it to be disposed of as non-hazardous waste or at a cheaper disposal option.

Our skill base includes staff with Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) qualifications at the highest levels.

Hazardous Waste Collection & Disposal

We are experienced collecting and disposing of most hazardous wastes. Our staff are trained in chemical handling and are able to safely repackage hazardous waste if necessary. We can remove it from site under our upper tier carrier broker dealer licence. Following our waste disposal you will be provided with a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note to verify the waste has been disposed of correctly.

Having a thorough understanding of the complex issues surrounding waste classification and many years’ experience of negotiating with an array of treatment and transfer facilities, has allowed us to source low cost disposal options for our clients, providing both significant savings and improved environmental performance.

Government advice - Hazardous waste

"You must follow these steps in England if your business:

  • produces hazardous waste
  • holds or stores hazardous waste
  • has hazardous waste removed from its premises
  1. Classify your waste to check if it’s hazardous.
  2. Separate and store hazardous waste safely.
  3. Use authorised businesses to collect, recycle or dispose of your hazardous waste – check that waste carriers are registered and waste sites have environmental permits.
  4. Fill in the parts of the consignment note that apply to you – keep one copy and give 2 copies to the carrier collecting your waste.
  5. Keep records (known as a ‘register’) for 3 years at the premises that produced or stored the waste."
